I’ll be the first to admit I was somewhat of a bookworm growing up. Any family trip I could be found with my head firmly planted inside the cover of whatever book I could get my hands on – much to my parents’ exasperation of missing out on New Zealand’s breath-taking scenery.
Even now I still have a fondness for putting the feet up and turning the pages, though unbeknownst to me as a kid that you wouldn’t have as much time to read when you grow up. I’ve even got myself a library card in efforts to quell seeing too much of the weekly wage going to Whitcoulls or PaperPlus.
First up on the pile is Ben Bergeron’s Chasing Excellence: A story about building the world’s fittest athletes and Carol Dweck’s Mindset: The new psychology of success. Having seen rave reviews of both these on various Instagram accounts and blogs, my curiosity was piqued and I purchased them online (the last book purchase for a while I promise).
While not the usual genre I would go for, I’m interested in improving a good mindset not only for training but life in general whether applied to work, lifestyle and social interactions.
So, with that in mind I’ll write the odd post every few months on the books I’ve been reading lately and give you a little summary of what they are about and what I thought of them. I love finding out what other people are reading so thought some of you may enjoy these posts as well.
